STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The New South Wales Department of Education and Training recognises that good discipline is fundamental to the achievement of Government priorities for the public school system. In 2006 the Department of Education and Training issued a new Student Discipline in Government Schools policy and requested schools to review their current policy.

In 2006 the staff, students and parents at Gardeners Road Public School reviewed the current school discipline policy and practices. This review has resulted in the development of a new School Discipline Policy that includes:

·        school rules

·        rights and responsibilities

·        strategies to manage inappropriate student behaviour

·        strategies to promote positive student behaviour

·        strategies to recognise and reinforce student achievement

The Gardeners Road Public School Discipline Policy reflects the policy, practices and procedures as outlined in a number of NSW Department of Education & Training documents, including:

·        Student Discipline in Government Schools

·        Core Rules in NSW Government Schools

·        Student Welfare Policy

·        Values in NSW Public Schools

·        The Anti-bullying Plan for Schools

·        Anti-racism Policy

·        The School Attendance Policy

·        School Uniform Policy

·        Suspension and Expulsion of School Students - Procedures

·        Occupational Health and Safety legislation and regulations
